Contest: Graz Apocalypses
Let’s assume that today something terrible happens to the human race. Giant bombs. Giant floods. Giant snails. Whatever. I wonder what would be left of Graz in — let’s see — 500 or 1000 years? The ancient tower of “Clock”? The dark ruins of the FH Joanneum? Barbarian hordes questing for glory in the UPC Arena?
Please be creative and let the city rot (photoshop) ((photorot)) away!
I started a Flickr Group called Graz Apocalypses.

Take part! I’d love to present the best pictures here in the Graz Metroblog!
Graz’s Historic Center
Why is Graz’s historic center “World Heritage”?
Well, here is the justification…
The historic centre of the city of Graz reflects artistic and architectural movements originating from the Germanic region, the Balkans, and the Mediterranean, for which it served as a crossroads for centuries. The greatest architects and artists of these different regions expressed themselves forcefully here and thus created brilliant syntheses.
Here’s the link. Actually a pretty interesting site… I recommend to surf along and read the different jury votes for sites all over the world.
And don’t forget… there are many endangered monuments on our planet. Scott’s hut in Antarctica, for example… but so far it’s not that cold in Graz. (No Al Gore jokes, please!)
Wolfgang Wildner: “etwas Höheres”
“etwas Höheres” (”something higher”) is a nice photo project by Wolfgang Wildner.
Most of the settings are in and around Graz.

VIPA
Orhan Kipcak, head of Graz-based company admTM, is editor of the recently published book “VIPA”.
So, what’s VIPA?
Virtual spaces have become a major economical growth factor in many areas. At present, spatial concepts are dominant in the entertainment industry (Gaming Industry, virtual worlds like Second Life, etc.), but also other areas of life are being redesigned through augmented reality and virtual reality (VR) concepts. As a consequence, the design and building of living spaces is no longer restricted to construction processes of the building industry. The aesthetical and conceptional design of these new virtual rooms and spaces will open up new opportunities for work and employment for architects, whose major competence is in the design of rooms and space-based social interactions. In the context of these new possibilities offered by virtual reality, the aim of the VIPA project was to develop curricular tools which expand and enhance education in the field of architecture. The development of a transnational virtual campus containing an e-learning and research platform for European universities of architecture acting in the field of virtual space design has been the primary objective of the VIPA project. This virtual campus was supposed to be available both for education and training as well as for research in the mentioned area. The publication is a summing up of the objectives, outcomes and the visions after of the project.
